Dire Straits  third release, 1980 s Making Movies, features several epic cuts that stand among Mark Knopfler s finest work. Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet and Solid Rock all feature the same distinctive jazz-based rhythm underneath Knopfler s fine country-blues staccato guitar flourishes. The addition of Bruce Springsteen s E Street Band pianist Roy Bittan also greatly benefits the overall tone here. In addition, the exit of rhythm guitarist David Knopfler creates more space for Mark to roam, and he responds with improves songwriting and country-rock themes that correspond to his detailed storytelling.
